How did Cookieville start? Cookieville first became an idea when its founder, Abbie Maffett and her family, moved to Tennessee in 2017. Throughout her childhood, Abbie always had a special place in her heart for desserts. Her family vividly remembers her saying, “I have 2 stomachs—one for dessert and one for dinner.” After eating a grilled cheese sandwich on raisin bread at one of her favorite Florida restaurants, Butterfly Bistro, Abbie would always ask for a cupcake and her love for sweet treats didn’t stop there. She spends many nights cooking dinner for her family and baking for every holiday or event she is invited to. Baking is more than a hobby to Abbie, it is a lifestyle. The name Cookieville came by complete accident. Abbie walked around saying that they moved to Cookievile and eventually, the name stuck. When she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, being a baker wasn’t at the top of her list. At first, she wanted to be a cardiologist. But then she learned about blood and gave that idea up. Then she explored teaching. She wanted to be either a history or an English teacher because of how much she loves writing about historical events. Then she realized that all she really wanted to do was to work with kids. Again, she changed her mind and started exploring pediatric physical or occupational therapy. Her dad told her to have fun in high school, so that is what she tried to do. As part of her Career and Technical Education (CTE), she enrolled in Cookeville High School’s Culinary Arts program. For the next two years, she found her passion through food! The support from her friends in that class and her family gave her hope. She can be a baker that can impact children’s lives. Something Abbie can’t wait to accomplish is hosting and catering a kids' birthday party! Abbie is currently studying Logistics, Operations, and Supply Chain Management at Tennessee Technological University. Thank you for believing in the dream that became Cookieville!
